About This LPH: Many managers do not know what’s expected of them beyond a list of projects and tasks to be completed on time and within budget. Expectations go much deeper than this, though, and it is both important and valuable to know how your manager defines excellent performance. You will have a much better chance of meeting and exceeding expectations if you understand what excellence looks like in the eyes of your managers and peers.

Learning objectives and expectations:

  • Discuss the importance of understanding expectations and their manager’s definition of excellence
  • Identify questions they can ask their manager and peers to define their expectations
  • Create a plan to conduct a one-on-one session to clarify expectations with their manager in the coming week
