Science Talk: Communicating the Importance of Biomedical and Animal Research through Informal Education
Presenter - David Garbe of Pennsylvania Society for Biomedical Research
Since 2012, in an effort to educate the public about the importance of biomedical and animal research, PSBR has engaged more than 26,000 students and 2,200 teachers. We are committed to developing innovative educational programs and exciting hands-on activities designed to develop 21st-century skills that prepare students for post-secondary education and professional careers. In this session, attendees will learn about PSBR, the programs we offer, and some of our best-practices for engaging younger generations. The presentation will also provide tips and strategies for communicating, debating, and exploring the health and medical benefits that humans, as well as animals, obtain from biomedical and animal research. We need to take a proactive voice and transparent stance on helping the public better understand the lab animal and research communities while providing a path for students to become engaged citizens, future thought leaders, and champions of biomedical research.
